Summary/Abstract: : This paper examines partial literary histories versus integral, full literary histories, emphasizing ways of writing, analysis, organization, selection criteria and periodization and the extent to which they contribute to the shaping of the Romanian literary canon. Starting from integral literary histories that take into consideration all literary productions of each literature and organize them chronologically, diachronic, trying to illustrate the evolution of that literature and reaching partial literary histories that analyze literary phenomenon based on a synchronic criterion we can observe the evolution of the literary history concept in the Romanian literature. Based on the large extent of the integral literary histories (structured by literary genres, movements or epochs) they leave the impression that they cover, present and interpret literature as a whole and that they include among their pages at least the most important representatives of the analyzed period, usually from its origins to present. Partial literary histories are those histories that follow a concept based on an aesthetic (or announced from beginning selection criterion, customized according to the taste of the historian, using modern analytic methods, innovative principles of writing, analyzing shorter period or a particular genre or literary movement. Partial literary histories replace descriptive chronology used in integral literary history, with different analysis based on narrower various literary aspects and subjectivity of the author. Critical and historical analysis of the most important Romanian literary histories, emerged after 1990, will illustrate the features of partial literary history, as well as integral literary histories trying to establish which will be the preferred form of writing. Perhaps integral literary histories, which give a panoramic view of the phenomenon of literary history will be left to teams of specialists and partial literary histories will be predominant. Also partial literary histories can be grouped into integral, global literary history.
