Summary/Abstract: Gadgets and computer systems changed profoundly the last few years: the role they play in our lives, opening opportunities but also opening potential security breaches. Lawyers can now clearly benefit from new advantages made possible by their professional work going the digital way – from transitioning towards e-documents with electronic signature as the de facto standard with new legal support to being able to access online the digital case file without going to court. IT companies stepped forward with specific software solutions for private lawyer practices and in the post-COVID era working remotely as a lawyer might become reality while also presenting some advantages. However, going digital opens the way for a new security threat – illegal access to a computer system, considering that all systems lawyers use on a daily basis collect and store a massive stack of personal and professional data, making them a highly sought after target for hackers.
