Summary/Abstract: The issue of the city was integrated into the reflections of great personalities who were at the origin of sociology. Karl Marx, Émile Durkheim, Max Weber and Georg Siemmel, all these pioneers of sociology saw the emergence of modernity in the city. Their works and theories have enabled the development of urban sociology, sociologists like Robert Park, Louis Wirth, Paul Henri Chombart de Lauwe, or Henri Lefevre, becoming its, promoters. These authors have proposed various theoretical and methodological perspectives on the research of the city and the urban space, connecting both with human ecology, but also with social ethnography. From this point of view, the city became the subject of many reflections that emphasize the fact that general definition applies.
