CONCEPTUAL METAPHORS IN POLITICAL DISCOURSE IN KOSOVO DURING THE INITIAL PERIOD OF THE COVID‐19 PANDEMIC

Summary/Abstract: This paper aims to address the use of some conceptual metaphors in political discourse in Kosovo during the Covid-19 pandemic period. The theoretical framework of the paper lays on concepts related to political discourse, the analysis of linguistic mechanisms in function of rhetorical strategies as well as the treatment of conceptual metaphors as part of political discourse. Empirical data for this research have been collected from television shows, press conferences and television debates. The main criteria for selecting materials are the topic of conversation and the context. These two elements largely determine the use and generation of some conceptual metaphors which are used in function of rhetoric. The findings of the research are mainly related to the fact that conceptual metaphors in political discourse in Kosovo are widely used as a communicative trick to create units of communication with people through informal communication.
