Summary/Abstract: The migrations and displacements of individuals (and populations) are themes featured in several fiction narratives. Thus, the socio-political contexts that possibly led to this movement are often (re)thought under new perspectives. We understand that the critical production about these works can amplify the discussion on those issues. Conducting our attention over this thematic and ambitioning to contribute to this debate, this text intends to analysis how Salazarist Dictatorship and Colonial War (1961-1974) had influenced a Portuguese village life, and then modified characters’ trajectory of Livro (2010), by José Luís Peixoto (1974). This hypothesis will be analyzed through literary study of the above work, emphasizing space as a narrative category. The selected aspect for this paper is the Adelaide’s character trajectory, a young woman away from her beloved Ilídio, and far away from her house, where she lived with her aunt, at a Portuguese village probably inspired on Galveias – where the writer José Luís Peixoto was born. To accomplish this task, we seek support on Gaston Bachelard and Antonio Candido.
