Summary/Abstract: This article analyzes the new policy of composiciones in Oaxaca in the eighteenth century. This process, due to the presence of numerous cacicazgos, led to the founding of new towns. The new policy obligated all Indians to undergo this process, enabling them to have their own property title, separated from their caciques.
