Summary/Abstract: Relay translation takes an important place in the history of Slovak translatology, although there has not been paid enough attention to the phenomenon yet. The author of the study presents the discussion and discrepancy in using the term “second-hand translation” as not clearly defined next to the terms “indirect translation” or “filological translation”. She also outlines the position of second-hand translation in the history of Slovak translation practice. As an outcome of processing the database of Slovak national bibliography, she names the source and mediating language at various stages of the history, concentrating on the 20th century period. The study is being published as a follow up of a broader work on second-hand translation in the Slovak literature of the 20th century, which also dealt with the publisher’s aspect and presented detailed shift analyses.
