Summary/Abstract: In spite of the increase in female employment rate with each year, it is still known to be less likely to participate in the employment of women than men in Turkey and the world for various reasons. Therefore, various policies and practices are implemented in order to facilitate and encourage the participation of women in work life, who constitute one of the disadvantaged groups of the labor market, especially in the underdeveloped and developing countries, and some sectors such as tourism are emphasized in increasing female employment. In this study, the place of the female labor force, which is still not adequately employed in the labor market as a result of economic, political and social structures, has been examined through the available statistics. Later on the study, based on the positive and negative characteristics of the tourism sector, the opportunities and challenges offered by the sector for the employment of female labor force were evaluated. As a result of the study, it was determined that 54,2% of the labor force worldwide employed in the tourism sector are women in 2019, while the female employment rate of Turkey in tourism sector is far more behind the worldwide average.
