Summary/Abstract: In the former library of the Cistercian abbey in Trzebnica in t he Lower Silesia there are three manuscript copies of the asc etic tractate "The Precept o f Preparing for a Devout Dy ing". They have been preserved in the prayer books stored at present in the Library of the St Bartholomew and St Hedwig Parish in Trzebnica and in the Library of University of Wrocław. The books had be en given to the nuns by the Cistercia n monk of Przemęt. The manuscript derives from 1655 and it is at the same time the oldest known version o f the tractate, which was published in 1669 under the name of Kasper Drużbicki, a preach er popular in Poznań and a pr ovincial of Polish Jesuits . This work can be recogni sed as an example of ars bene moriendi literaturę presenting the theory and practice of preparing for dying as a way of inner development of a Christian. The present article i s a n attempt at solving th e question of the tractate's origins at the basis for c omparative analysis between the copies belonging to Trzebnica nuns and the version written down in the manuscript kept in the Archives of the South Province of the Society of Jesus in Kraków . The resul ts of source criticism of the works allow to confirm th e ir author was most probably Drużbicki . They reveal very interesting relation between the Silesian cloister and Polish culture and they broad en our knowledge about creative influence of the Society of Jesus on the religious aspect of the Sarmatian society i n the 17 th century.
