On the occasion of the 1100th anniversary of the death of St. Clement of Ohrid

Summary/Abstract: The author of the article, besed on relevant historic written sources, provide evidence that the location of the second church which was built by Clement from Ohrid, next to his monastery St. Pantelejmon shortly after the year 893 and which he dedicated to St. Mary Mother of God from Annunciation, afterward named as Holy Annunciation, was located on the flatland on the Plaosnik Hill. In the times of Clement, the role of the church Holy Annunciation was the religious service in this church to be held and preached on Slavic language which was Clement’s primary goal in achieving of organized re-sanctification and education of the people. Afterward, at the time of the Macedonian tsar Samuil, when the city of Ohrid, at the period around year 900 or 1000, became capitol of the Macedonian Samuil’s state, the church Holy Annunciation, the said old Clement’s church, became capitol of the Ohrid patriarchate, and when in year 1018 the byzantine emperor Vasilij II reduced it to archbishops, cathedral. After the revocation of Ohrid Archbishops in year 1767, the Ottoman authority tore down to the ground the archbishops church Holy Annunciation.
