Summary/Abstract: Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's ballad The Sorcerer's Apprentice (1797), in which the title-giving figure replaces the absence of the sorcerer and thus causes a flood, is obviously about the topic of crossing borders. In the meantime, it is baptized that the flood disaster occurred in the domesticated environment of the master’s workshop and that the master immediately restored the old order when he returned. From this point of view, the text - the other way around - can also be read as a kind of awareness of what limits actually mean and why it is important to adhere to them. In fact, in the sorcerer's apprentice, chaos and order are mutually dependent. One could also say that the protagonist crosses boundaries within the boundaries defined by certain discourses. The aim of the present study is to make the discursive order of the text visible. Which discourses arise? How do they work together? What are their functions? And what dynamics do they develop? Such questions will have to be dealt with in more detail below.
