Summary/Abstract: The article is organized as follows: (1) The concept of freedom as an essential part of human society; (2) The man between democracy and tyranny; (3) The rise of death camps as extermination facilities, the Eichmann trial and Hannah Arendt’s concept of banality of evil (4) The Milgram experiment and the aftermath; (5) Zimbardo prison experiment and the power of roles and rules; (6) An attempt is made of a brief interpretation of the concept of duality of man.
