Summary/Abstract: Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin (1799-1837) is considered to be among the pioneers of realist literature. Pushkin has produced works in various branches of literature, especially poetry. This article, in which Pushkin's works are discussed; poet, philosopher and at the same time writer of art criticism, it has been evaluated in the axis of Paul Valery's understanding of art. In almost all of his diverse works, Pushkin expressed views on the competencies that should be possessed in art, especially in narrative arts. As a theoretical explanation in order to put forward these views systematically, the approaches of another poet (also art theorist) Valery, who was born seventy-two years after Pushkin, were taken as basis. In this article, the content of the work that is the subject of qualitative research has been analyzed by document analysis method. Pushkin's views on literary competencies were tried to be explained with additional explanations supporting the literature.
