Summary/Abstract: Writing is one of the most significant elements that enable societies to recognize, interpret and communicate with themselves and other communities. While Art is an expression of feelings and thoughts that connect these societies to eachother. Calligraphy, which is formed of the combination of these two elements, is influential in terms of establishing an interdisciplinary connection and it also strengthens the emotions of the work according to its visual and expressive contributions to the art object. In this context, ceramic art has used calligraphy intensively as a design element in the production of both traditional and contemporary ceramic forms. In this study, the development process of writing, the emergence of calligraphy and its effects on ceramic art were examined by using a semi-formal qualitative research method. Giving examples from contemporary ceramic artists who use calligraphy in their artworks; the strong expression language that calligraphy has created in the field of traditional and contemporary ceramics from past to present has been revealed, and it has been emphasized that it creates an interdisciplinary connection.
