Summary/Abstract: In Arabic grammar, the texts are composed of sentences and the sentences are composed of words. One of the types of words is prepositions called “hurūf al-ma'ānī” in Arabic language literature. When we look at Arabic texts, it is possible to find these prepositions in almost every sentence and every line. This indicates how important the contribution of prepositions to meaning is. Prepositions that vary in terms of irab and meaning depending on their position in the sentence based on the perspective and interpretation of Arab linguists have been the subject of discussion and become a problem in this context. The purpose of this article is to examine the views put forward regarding the function of the preposition "en", one of the prepositions in question, and the problems arising from the differences of opinion. In line with this goal, the question whether “the preposition ‘en’ is a letter or a noun” will be tried to be solved. Then, according to the position of this preposition in the sentence, what kind of meanings it denotes or what kind of meaning it adds to sentences will be discussed.
