Summary/Abstract: This article presents an etymological analysis of the words, un-words, and youth words of the year 2020 in Germany and Austria. We examined the words that were selected by various specialist juries based on specific criteria. The year 2020 was badly affected by the coronavirus pandemic, which also had a significant impact on the vocabulary of the German language.
