Summary/Abstract: The subject of this paper is community service in the Criminal Code of Montenegro. This is an alternative sanction (measure) provided for in the Montenegrin criminal law as a punishment. The paper analyzes its normative proposals, but also the relevant judicial practice regarding it. The corresponding data show that the number of offenders sentenced to community service has continuously increased comparing to the total number of convictions which is certainly justified in view of criminal-policy. Namely, such an approach in relation to appropriate, primarily minor offences (but also those crimes of medium gravity), avoids the imposition of short-term prison sentences with all their negative effects.
