Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the study of the degradation of some iron pieces discovered in 2019 following the archaeological excavations carried out in Neamț County in Roșiori, Dulcești commune, and in Topolița, commune Grumăzești. In this regard, two knife fragments, a large ring and a fragment of object were analysed by non-invasive techniques of stereo-microscopy and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) coupled with Energy Dispersive X-Ray spectroscopy (EDX), which highlighted the type of corrosion crusts, the distribution of chemical compounds and contamination microstructures taken from the soil. The results obtained regarding the degradation of the pieces were interpreted taking into account the environment and the depths to which they were in the ground, the historical period from which they come, the functions assigned before abandonment – the wear being another important factor to which we refer in the elucidation of the alteration mechanisms, chemistry and physical damage.
