Summary/Abstract: The European Commission (2018) supports the commitment to digital technology as a mechanism for enriching learning opportunities, since, with its application, innovative practices in teaching of foreign languages are increased. This will undoubtedly contribute to fostering new learning methods within the framework of a progressively more digitized face-to-face teaching, while reinforcing the acquisition of communicative competence in Spanish. On the other hand, it should be remembered that one of the key competencies of teaching staff (Instituto Cervantes 2012) is, precisely, the incorporation of ICT for their teaching performance. The aim of this research is to evaluate the current situation of the infrastructure of virtual learning spaces in the digital age. To this end, we will look at the materials and resources offered on an online ELE electronic platform within the framework of initiatives linked to the modernization of Spanish language teaching. Finally, we note the obligation on the part of teachers as well as publishers and professionals in the sector to attend to innovation processes and to adapt technological resources to enhance students’ autonomy, empowerment, and learning.
