Summary/Abstract: The authors present a monetary hoard from the end of the 16th century discovered at Bora, Ialomița County. The hoard consists of 24 coins, four gold ducats from the Netherlands and Hungary and 20 large European silver coins struck in Austria, the Netherlands, Transylvania, various principalities and cities within the Roman-German Empire. The most recent coin, a gold ducat struck by Zeeland in 1595, shows that the treasure was hidden during the reign of Michael the Brave, in the context of the events that took place after the battle of Călugăreni. The analysis of the hoard suggests that the coins arrived in Wallachia rather by military means, for the payment of the soldiers.
