Summary/Abstract: This article aims to analyze the rules of Lex Rhodia de iactu, which consider the situation of throwing goods overboard by the captain of the seagoing ship to save the ship and distribution of damage among owners of goods. The paper, however, is not limited to the research of the considered norms, but also extends to the way in which these norms inspired the modern commercial codes.
