Summary/Abstract: Several examples of scientific institutes have been selected in the present text: the British School in Athens, the American Academy in Rome and the German Archaeological Institute, which have significant photo archives including photographs of art works. Their experience in processing and introducing such archives on the Internet comes into consideration with a view to generating ideas on how to proceed with the photo archive of the Institute of Art Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
