Territorial Polonica and other Slavica in the Book Collection of Gregor Tarkovič (1745–1841), the First Bishop of the Greek Catholic Eparchy of Prešov

Summary/Abstract: This article is an attempt to analyse, based on the 1841 catalogue, the Slavic prints identified in the personal book collection of Gregor Tarkovič (1745–1841), theologian, censor of Slavic books and the first Greek Catholic bishop of the Prešov eparchy. In addition to tackling all prints in terms of content, themes and languages, it also examines the individual country-related from Ukraine, Russia, Polish, Poland, Bohemia and Slovakia. The author deals mainly with territorial Polonica because of the large–scale aspect of the issue. In addition, the article is an attempt to provide physical evidence of the mentioned prints in the historical Eparchial library, where they were placed after the bishop’s death and are today outstanding items of the cultural heritage in Prešov.
