Summary/Abstract: The research question refers to the consideration of whether the existing system of required physical voting is consistently outdated, in example whether electronic voting can be added to it or replaced by electronic voting as a more promising model that would overcome existing systemic shortcomings and/or increase efficiency, voter turnout and voter confidence in the electoral process. The methodology will include an institutional approach in determining the analysis of the existing voting system, its current implications for political participation and the principles necessary for the voter to exercise his or her right. In this regard, the analysis of the content will be used for recommendations and documents of international bodies and organizations that determine the standards of indirect democracy and the act of voting as its indispensable element. With a comparative approach, we determine the advantages/ flaws of both mentioned voting systems, which leads us to the conclusion whether electronic voting would respond to the consequences of low electoral turnout in the Republic of Serbia.
