Summary/Abstract: Recovery indicates a change process in which individuals endeavor to develop their health and well-being. Tidal Model is a model contributing to the recovery process of individuals. This compilation study aims to introduce the philosophy of the Tidal Model used in the field of mental health and psychiatric nursing and attract attention to its areas of usage. The Tidal Model stressing the possibility of recovery and inevitability of change, mentions the uniqueness of human experience. Focusing on the change process; the model prioritizes the personal statements of individuals and helps them reveal the meaning of their experiences. In the Tidal Model metaphors are used, life is compared to a journey. The model states that life is a journey taken on the ocean of experience; the health and sickness experience contains explorations in the ocean; and the individual is the captain of her/his own ship. The model also stresses that the journey bears risks and individuals need to develop skills of adapting to changes. The Tidal model has been used in home care applications, alcohol addicts, acute, rehabilitation and forensic units and psychiatric clinics within the scope of the psychiatric nursing applications in different countries. The studies conducted have demonstrated that the model enhances compliance to treatment, reduces relapses, reduces hospitalization rates, enhances hope levels, reduces self-destruction behaviors of individuals and makes a positive contribution to the recovery process.
