Summary/Abstract: In our language the most frequent way of forming a diminutive is by adding diminutive suffixes to morphologically distinct bases (more often, nouns), a synthetic way, par excellence. Due to the high productivity of this process, the great majority of the research dedicated to Romanian diminutives are focusing mainly on this type of diminutives. However, the Romanian language also possesses analytic diminutives, and also diminutives in which synthetic and analytic processes are combined (such as diminutives containing two diminutive suffixes, structures in which both terms are diminutivized, combining derivation with compounding, etc.). This last category represents also the main focus of the article we propose. Although the Romanian language represents the aim of our paper, references on different Romance or Non-romance languages will be made in order to build up the clearest image possible of the linguistic ways of expressing diminution. The examples provided for the Romanian language are selected from the Internet, from distinct online conversations. The aims of the paper are to emphasize the existence of some other ways of forming diminutives in Romanian (except the ones obtained by suffixation), with a highlight on the co-occurrence of modifiers, and also to enrich the diminutive class through examples from the current use.
