Summary/Abstract: Transition to parenthood as a life course event. A comparative analysis based on „Fertility and Family Survey”. Younger generations of people show increasing diversity in their life courses, events such as leaving parental home, finishing education, entering a partnership and childbearing being delayed and appearing more often not in the standard sequence. Fertility and Family Surveys, conducted in Europe during the 1990s, provide retrospective data required for life course studies and allow us to investigate how such events are connected with parenthood, from a life course approach. Using event history analysis, I study the transition to parenthood and what factors influence it. The analysis compares the situation in ten European countries.
