Summary/Abstract: The importance of studying carols, through the prism of another culture, consists in deepening a field originating for a people. In the vestiges, in the cultural forms transmitted orally, though they are old, or precisely because they are old, it stands the life of a culture, stands the name of a people to keep themselves in its territories and in the world. Seven musical works were subjected to an analytical study in this article, in order to make a more comprehensive look at the carol. The study of habits, located in the period including winter solstice, also included the subgenders of the genus carol. Provenance, the presence in Romania and the mythical role have also been considered in the analysis. We have proposed criteria with a general analysis area, associated with their checks in case of particular observations, such as form, melody, rhythm, text, style, etymological aspects of the term Ler and historical attestations. Ways of taking and processing folklore statements, such as quotation, popular character, harmonizing folklore musical text, chords, imitation, pedal, ostinato in a polyphonic context, polymetry, polyrhymia and ways of the musical expression, were subject to analytical observation. Although certain church documents, opinions with the role of shrinking the spiritual importance of carols, from some priests, contributed to the overlapping of christian celebrations over secular ones, the pagan habit did not disappear but retained continuity in the case of the carols. Certain church documents, various chronicles, reports, statements by people from diplomatic bodies passing through romanian countries were counterarguments in favor of romanian customs.
