Summary/Abstract: The crisis of faith, although predicted over a century ago, is taking today not fully predictable forms. Aggressive atheism, together with the “humanism” devoid of religion, create the so-called “societa hybris”. In the light of this negative evaluation of the contemporary civilization and the ongoing process of dechristianization the Church needs to answer the questions of its place and mission. New evangelization, understood mostly as a spiritual attitude, seems to be a way between the extremes: a definite rejection of the contemporary changes and uncritical acceptance thereof. Joseph Ratzinger / Benedict XVI highlights the need to root all the pastoral action in the personal relation with the Father, after Jesus Christ. The pope reminds about the parable of the mustard seed, links between Jesus’ prayers and activity, and the communion with God (conversion) as the basis of Christian gospel.
