Summary/Abstract: The Crusades had played a very important role in the history of Europe. Western Christianity could expand to the new lands and see the realities of the imagined East. After the first crusade, a number of Latin states were created in Islamic regions, but never remained persistent there. Christians, however, came to know the possible sources of luxury goods during this period. So, the desire to reach to those sources had moved few European individuals to search any alternative sea route. For example, at the end of the 13th century, one can see some fruitless attempts to find an Atlantic sea-way by sailing around Africa. Yet, a rather extraordinary event took place in the second quarter of the 15th century. With Prince Henry's incentives, his men could arrive at Cape Bojador. This study aims to deal with Henry’s efforts to pass the aforesaid cape, and a royal charter, dated Oct. 22, 1443, ensuring the profits coming from it in the future.
