Summary/Abstract: Diasporic communities have links with at least two types of places: those where they settle or transit through, and those from where they came from. Between those places exists a space, called transnational. The temporal dimension is essential, whether or not it is linked to the movement of the migrant between those various places. The diasporic media are crucial for these transnational communities, not only to foster the sense of belonging, but also for the identity construction of given groups. This article aims to describe diasporic media through reflexion on this role in the context of various complexities accompanying their emergence in the world which has surpassed all traditional information sources. The article begins with a review of some of the main theoretical currents in the literature on diaspora, transnationalism and media. These theoretical bases are applied in the case study of the Slovak diaspora and its media as a concrete experience of transnational experience over time.
