Summary/Abstract: The study seeks answer to the following questions: which channels of communication could have been employed by aristocrats through their pilgrimages in the late Middle Ages? What kind of information could have been transmitted? Where could have the acquired pieces of information been utilised and in which circles could this factual knowledge have become wellknown? This study concentrates on the 15th century, as well as on since the fi rst quarter of the 16th century, as a result of the fact that this period is considered to be the heyday of the diff erent kinds of reports, diaries and itineraries. The starting point of this analysis is provided by the peregrinations of barons and imperial aristocrats, as the majority of data on disposal is given by their well-documented journeys. In the fi rst place, peregrinations of those people are analysed, who originated and lived in the territory of the Holy Roman Empire, as most of the detailed travel diaries survived from this region. Due to the complexity of the subject-matter, the author employs other types of written, material and epigraphic sources as well as diff erent graphic portrayals.
