Summary/Abstract: In the analysis of last Zaytsev's work, tetralogy Gleb' Journey, the way to sanctity is shown as a gradual development of the character's spirituality and piety: from sacred perception of beauty as a reflection of God, through which God reveals himself, through reaching to spiritual love liberating from the material corporeality, to freedom/liberation through work as the individual's fulfilment of a given religious objective. Based on the analysis of the biblical meaning of "tree of life," the author attempted to interpret Zaytsev's aesthetic intention of entitling the last part of his tetralogy Tree of Life. As a result, the concept of "tree of life" in Gleb's Journey is shown at several planes: first, as a branch of the general existence and continuation of the human race; second, as a metaphor for the spiritual development of the protagonist; and third, as a symbol of lost pre-revolutionary Russia.
