Summary/Abstract: At the beginning of the last decade of the 14th century a conflict was started with the local nobility concerning the payment of tithe. The new bishop Maciej claimed the right received from the Pope to levy the sheaf tithe, while from the times of Casimir the Great in Red Ruthenia a lower rate of tithe was in effect. The settlement was reached only through the mediation of King Ladislaus, probably in the summer of 1394. Nevertheless, some noblemen still opposed the new rates. It was only the threat of enforcing sheaf tithe that stopped the conflict, the last stage of which was the confirmation by the bishop in 1406 that tithe in the Przemyśl diocese had to be paid in coin, while the form of that from the grange fields might be freely decided.
