Summary/Abstract: The article contains a history of Criminology in Romania, which was born at the beginning of the twentieth century as an integral part of criminal science, and later, with the appearance of the "Criminology Course" by Professor Traian Pop in 1928, it became an independent legal discipline, with a very important role in preventing and effectively combating the criminal phenomenon. Also, the article refers, in chronological order, to the main moments and reference works that appeared during the evolution of Criminology in Romania. Until 1989, this subject matter had an unstable progress, with a small number of such works and long periods of time without any specialised publications and, moreover, was affected by the detrimental influence of the Soviet dialectical criminology. After 1990, Criminology in Romania became more dynamic, with the appearance of numerous authors and specialized publications, the organization of domestic and international events and the development of numerous researches and practical studies, all together enriching this eminently legal science. Criminology is currently facing a real challenge posed by current crime trends and developments.
