Summary/Abstract: Purpose/Thesis: The aim of the study whose results are presented in the article was to chronologize lexical units used to refer to the discipline currently known as information science. Approach/Methods: In her 2013 article entitled Obszary badań współczesnej informatologii (nauki o informacji) (Research areas of contemporary information science), Barbara Sosińska-Kalata proposed a class of chronological hypotheses concerning terms related to information science. Referring to the latest research employing photodocumentation, we seek to uphold (confirm) some of her hypotheses, and to refute others, as well as propose ours, which, in our opinion, give a more accurate picture of the state of affairs in the 20th century. Results and conclusions: We correct the chronologization of terms such as “information science” (1995 -> 1965) and “information management” (2005 -> 1974). However, certain hypotheses of Sosińska-Kalata, such as her chronologizations of terms “bibliography” or “legal informatics”, are maintained or even supported further. Originality/Value: Apart from the abovementioned analyzes, we also present our reflections on the origins and functioning of the considered terminology. The article therefore sheds new light on the development of information science.
