Summary/Abstract: Coins issued in the time of King Radoslav (1228-1234) derived from the Byzantine coinage which was deeply rooted in the region of the central Balkans, and from the contemporary coinage of the Empire of Thessalonica. The coinage of Thessalonica - issues of Theodore I Angelos and especially of Manuel Angelos, was the typological, stylistic and metrological prototype of King Radoslav's coinage. On the basis of the direct analogies of the types 1 and 4 of King Radoslav's coins to the coins of Manuel Angelos, the above issues can be dated to 1230, or the period following this year. We do not have any reliable parameters for the dating of the remaining two types, so that we can only assume that they were minted in the same period.
