Summary/Abstract: In most plants, we distinguish above-ground and underground shoots. The aboveground shoot is made of stems, leaves, flowers and fruits. The root organ is the root, whose main function is to keep the plant in the ground and take up water with mineral salts. In the construction of herbaceous stalks, we distinguish the apical bud, knots and internodes. The leaves have different sizes and shapes, mainly responsible for the production of nutrients in the process of photosynthesis, gas exchange (oxygen and carbon dioxide) and transpiration. Plant organs undergo transformation, thanks to which they can perform additional functions, among others: storage of nutrients, taking the necessary substances from host tissues, vegetative reproduction, wrapping around supports, repelling herbivorous animals, limiting evaporation, catching and digesting small animals which, are a source of nitrogen.
