Summary/Abstract: In the third decade of August 1939, cases of sabotage and sabotage by the German „fifth column” on railway structures in southern Poland multiplied. These accidents were intended to sow confusion and panic, as well as disrupt railway traffic, preparing the ground for Germany’s aggression against Poland. On August 23, 1939, in the morning, an unknown saboteur derailed the Warsaw-Zakopane train in the village of Świnna Poręba in the Wadowice poviat. Two people were severely injured and one of them subsequently died. On the other hand, some passengers on the train were shocked or slightly injured. Normal rail traffic was restored two days after the crash, and trains on this section ran until the second day of the war.
