Summary/Abstract: The capital market fulfils certain functions in the economy. It is widely thought that the capital market is its pillar. This statement poses a challenge to the definition of the state and the circumstances of its development. Present tendencies on developed capital markets i.e. globalisation, liberalisation, competition, mergers, alliances cause that one should outline the ways of the development of the Polish investment market. The extensiveness of the subject causes that the author of the paper decided to focus the analytical attention on the institutional conditions of the stock-exchange share market.
