Summary/Abstract: It is Sunday afternoon, 6 November 1955, a chilly autumn day. Antonín Tomík just touched the back of the wooden fence separating the prison camp from the barracks of the guards. The planked fence leads approximately through the middle of the Nikolai camp. Nikolai is one kilometre north of Jáchymov in the Ore Mountains, around which the prisoners mine uranium ore that goes to the USSR without compensation.
