It Failed. The Story of the Solemn Depiction of the Communist Constitution

Summary/Abstract: The 9 May Constitution, whose final text definitively confirmed the legitimacy of the February 1948 communist coup in Czechoslovakia, also became the symbol of the bitter end of the political career of President Edvard Beneš. He refused to sign this new text of the key law of the state, resigned from the presidency and thus gave way to his successor Klement Gottwald, who was elected on 14 June 1948.
