Summary/Abstract: The poet, essayist and novelist Jakub Deml became involved in publishing activity during the first decade of the 20th century in collaboration with Josef Florian. Although Florian’s publishing house Studium was the only organisation of its kind Deml worked with in these years, his cooperation with Florian was not the last of his publishing activities. In 1911, he once again tried to start publishing and, although he eventually had to seek help from another publisher, he began publishing books independently soon after. He continued his publishing activities for more than three decades, either personally or through his collaborators. The paper seeks to capture the changes in the publishing activities of Jakub Deml and his (mainly female) associates. It also shows the dramatic change in the position and profile of his publishing house after the Second World War. Attention is also paid to the factors that prompted the writer to become a publisher and the shortcomings of his publishing activities.
