Summary/Abstract: It is his phenomenon that John Paul II is the supreme authority for both those coming to age and those who sought profound values on the often complicated paths of life. The Pope has left behind thousands of pages filled with his thoughts, which are a kind of guideposts, a direction in search of one’s own place in the world. The Main Library of the Maria Curie-‑Skłodowska University has a rich collection of texts by the Polish Pope: his encyclicals, exhortations, speeches, homilies, considerations, philosophical works, apostolic letters, as well as poetry and literary works. The human being is always in the centre of considerations of the philosopher from Lublin, the Bishop of Cracow and the Pope. The canonization of John Paul II made us realize how gigantic was the spiritual heritage left by the Pope and how his teachings still affect people nowadays. The interaction with John Paul II thoughts fosters human perception of the essential values upon which the human fate and the future of civilization depend. He shows us how to speak about moral values and how to engage in the transition of ourselves and the world around us. The thought expressed by the Word organizes human existence, shapes mind, heart and will. The purpose of this paper is to show which titles from the rich heritage of John Paul II were the most popular among the readers of the UMCS Main Library and which reasons lead to the choice of such literature.
