Summary/Abstract: In 2011 a publication presenting the musical works associated with the person and thought of Karol Wojtyła – John Paul II was published, within the Music in the Context of Poetry and Teaching of Karol Wojtyła – John Paul II project. Part one: Karol Wojtyła – John Paul II. Music. An Anthology of Texts is a collection of the Holy Father’s statements on art, artistic vocation and its role in the contemporary world. Part two: Works. Inspirations, Interpretations contains articles presenting the state of research on the composers’ output related to John Paul II, including compositions dedicated or offered to the Pope as well as those which, in the verbal layer, use texts written by him or were inspired by his person and teaching. The Main Library of the Academy of Music in Cracow archives this compositional output in the form of manuscripts, music prints, recordings and analytical articles. The composition Tryptyk z poezji Karola Wojtyły (Triptych from the Poems by Karol Wojtyła) by Irena Pfeiffer is a musical arrangement of three poems by Karol Wojtyła from different periods of his life: as a student, as a cleric and as an archbishop. Wybrzeża pełne ciszy (Coasts Full of Silence) from the poem Pieśń o Bogu Ukrytym (Song about the Hidden God), Magnificat and Stanisław were prepared for the a cappella choir, soloists and reciters. In the musical layer, the references to choral singing, monodic recitation, primitive polyphony inspired by the organum as well as to the Renaissance polyphony can be found. The arrangement of the whole composition is supposed to allow the listener to comprehend the text of the work; a clear texture, tonality and narrowness of melodic lines support this aim. Triptych from the Poems by Karol Wojtyła by Irena Pfeiffer is the first musical composition to use the original text of John Paul II in the verbal layer. Since then the writings and poems of Karol Wojtyła – John Paul II are used by the successive generations of composers.
