The system of characters in I.Odegov’s story Snow on the web

Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to the analysis of the creation of characters in the story Snow on the web by a modern Russian-Kazakh writer I. Odegov. The analysis based on the text demonstrates the application of the theory of dissipative systems to describe the specificity of the creation and functioning of characters in a literary text. The main features of dissipative systems are: nonlinearity, dynamism, openness. These features are transferred to the way in which characters are presented in the story, revealing their instability, reorganization and interaction with other character systems. The characters in the story create Microsystems around themselves, which subsequently, being in a state of instability, interact and merge into macrosystems, forming a macroimage of the city. One of the key concepts in the theory of dissipative systems is the concept of bifurcation. This term refers to such a moment in the functioning of the system when it is reorganized and chooses one of the possible ways of further development, that is, there is a phase transition. The bifurcation points in the system of characters in the novel «Snow on the web» correspond to the culmination moments in the development of the storyline associated with a particular character. The character system of the city consists of people of different worldviews and professions, united by the desire to find the meaning of life, to find and maintain love and the fact that they all exist within a symbolic web of relationships. In the light of the systems theory, the metropolis is presented as a complex synergetic system, the representation of which is the image of the web. The system of characters in the novel Snow on the web in the framework of a synergetic approach is subject to the universal laws of organization and self-organization. Being an element of the text system, through which its synergetic aspects are manifested, the system of characters acts as a platforming factor in which the author's idea is concentrated.
