Summary/Abstract: The author discusses the contribution of Prof. Kitromilides to the studies of nationalism in the Balkans provided in his book An Orthodox Commonwealth and in his work in general. Particular attention has been given to the way that Prof. Kitromilides has conceptualized the notions of Balkan identity, how he was able to identify the main characteristics of Romaic identity within the Orthodox community, and how he has deconstructed the narratives of Balkan historians imbued with the spirit of national romanticism.
