Summary/Abstract: Motivation has recently become one of the leading research topics in the field of second language acquisition and foreign language teaching. This, however, does not mean that teachers find it easy to attract learners’ attention, shape their motivation and help them to maintain and improve their engagement in lessons. The article offers tips to novice teachers on how not to demotivate learners with assessment as well as how to elicit their situational interest in texts and tasks in the process of school language learning.
