Summary/Abstract: This article analyzes the phenomenon how Spanish and European literary trends and genres received a distinctive local taste due to their transmission and adaptation to the Mexican cultural setting. The article also addresses the issue of Spanish and European literature serving the purpose of Christianization in the recently conquered territories as well as it focuses on how this European literature managed to adjust itself to the needs of a new Mexican society in the making. Whereas there exists some secondary literature on Spanish–Mexican emblematics, though not in abundance, there is still a substantial shortage of such literature on echo poetry and echo rhymes.
