Summary/Abstract: Despite of the fact that the remote New England – with a small population, low population density and failure to have an own newspaper published regularly until the beginning of the 18th century – was isolated from the access to the European news, due to the late 17th century’s events, the news’ flow has been accelerated towards the New World by numerous information channels. Thanks to the newsletters written in manuscript forms, communication between individuals as well as ecclesiastical and family relations across the ocean, myriads of copies of reports and English publications had reached the overseas where the documents were often republished. The readership of New England had paid particular attention to the Hungarian happenings even from the outbreak of the Thököly uprising, which can mainly be attributed to their sympathy towards the persecuted fellow Protestants. The recapturing wars against the Turks were not of great importance at the overseas only because of the changing European power structure, or the expulsion of the “eternal enemy”, but also because many opinion-shaper theologians among the Puritans – building upon the Bible explanations – awaited the coming of Millennium from the overwhelming of the Ottoman Empire. After the turn of the century, with the outbreak of the War of the Spanish Succession, the focus of attention turned to the European power balance. The chief cause of this was the spread of hostilities towards the overseas and the colonies’ direct concern.
